Plant health is one of the most important strategic points of our company. That is the reason because we decide to invest in structural improvements every year. This season we have introduced the growing tables in the plant propagation nursery to protect the plants as much as possible and to grow them in the healthiest, cleanest and most hygienic habitat possible.
The growing tables allow the plants to be grown at a certain height above ground level, which has several technical advantages for us, as we explain below.
On the one hand, there is a greater ventilation of the aerial and root part parts, and less exposure to excess humidity after sprinkler irrigation, as it disappears sooner. This practice helps to reduce fungal infections and minimise fungicide treatments, with all the benefits that this entails for the environment, our workers and the plant itself.
On the other hand, the distance from the ground isolates the roots and prevents them from going deeper and becoming infected by other diseases. In addition, when the table tray is emptied, it allows a better disinfection of the support, what ensures that it is completely sanitized when new production cycles start.
Regarding treatments efficiency, the use of growing tables makes they more effective; as the angle of application is more horizontal, treatments penetration is wider and greater.
Growing tables also allow an easy checking for pests and diseases and facilitate the work on the crop itself, as it is elevated, closer to the eyes and hands of the technician and the staff. This also means that some of the tasks are done better, providing operational ease at the workplace.
