In 2019, in the area of Valencia, the production of peaches, nectarines and apricots is expected higher than the previous year. The autumn and winter gave about 610 chilling hours and that has been a right amount for the low and medium chilling varieties, so they has flowered properly. The mild temperatures during day and the cold during night, has produced a good fruit set. After thinning, this year is expected a full crop load, that will be ready for picking 3 or 4 days earlier than in 2018.
In may our fruit tree nursery start the season of peaches, nectarines, flat peaches, flat nectarines, apricots and plums, and we organize technical guided visits to show our trial field and varieties to our clients and visitors. This year we are focused on the following research lines:
Varieties and rootstocks of different breeders:
– Agronomical testing of the last cultivars of peaches, nectarines, paraguayos, plum and apricot. Characterization table with flowering and ripening data, frost resistance and brix degrees.
– Trial with new hybrids rootstocks.
New tendencies on the fruit growing technics:
– Super high density (SHD) in fruit tree plantations.
– Irrigation efficiency with humidity sensors.
