The nursery offer in quince plant (Cydonia oblonga<\/span><\/strong>), traditionally, focused on the production and multiplication of the plant in the field, presenting itself for sale in the format of a 2-year-old tree with bare roots.<\/p>\n

At Hernandorena we think that it is a product<\/strong> <\/span>that, although a minority, had to be modernized, so we began to study different production systems, in order to develop new, more economical sales formats that would give a faster response to customers in planting. After all this time of tests and trials directed by our R&D department, we present you the result from the initial multiplication of a micrograft<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

RD1 format:<\/span><\/strong>
\n1 year old bare root, height 120-140 cm.
\nRD2 format:<\/span><\/strong>
\n2 year old bare root, height +140 cm.

The start-up and planting<\/span><\/strong> date would be from December to March, and the campaign can be extended with the reservation in camera and prior notice.<\/p>\n

The variety that we multiply is the best known cv. “WRANJA”,<\/strong><\/span> has a yellow, hairy fruit, with a very good size and that ripens in October. It is a very productive variety and well adapted to the sweet quince processing industry.<\/p>\n

The “PROVENCE”<\/span><\/strong> standard is a clonal selection of a quince loam, which is multiplied by cuttings. It stands out for its good adaptation to limestone soils, it confers high vigor and excellent productivity to the variety, even improving the BA-29.<\/p>\n

The plant material<\/strong><\/span> used for the production of the plant is 100% obtained from our mother trees, controlled both varietally and healthily.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that our nursery is within a protected area<\/strong> <\/span>free of “Bacterial Fire”, a disease caused by the bacterium Erwinia amylovora, therefore each year we are authorized to market the plant with its Phytosanitary Passport.<\/p>\n

We can organize visits to the Puente Genil area (Cordoba) and get to know some reference farm, this area is important in Spain for the local cultivation of quince.<\/p>\n

Some growing recommendations:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The most memorable frame would be 4’5 \u00d7 2’5, and the maximum would be 5 \u00d7 3 since it has a vigorous but very closed growth.
\nIt is an undemanding crop in water. It is grateful for a drip irrigation system with short and frequent waterings. Especially without excesses since too abundant watering reduces the sugars in the fruit so highly valued in the industry.
\nNo-till cultivation is advised. Better not to break roots as it lowers yields.
\nFormation pruning: important to open the tree wide. Only prune in winter, pruning in spring \/ summer green doesn’t suit you at all.<\/p>\n
